It is implied that bolters may have some ability to manipulate other infected, as when alerted or killed nearby Volatiles are sent into a chase, and in the Witch Queen side quest the brain of a Bolter is needed to for Dahlia to make the Cloak Potion. Zere has planted as an experiment sometime during the outbreak. Along with the Volatiles, it is one of the few infected that only appears at night.ĭuring the Siblings main quest line, it is revealed that Bolters are actually infected that have consumed a "bait" that Dr. It is also noted for having green lumps covering its body that glow. Those that pounce on you with "fangs" sticking out on each side of their mouth, hideous looking,ĭo they see through camo? If not, then this quest should be easy. The Bolter is an uncommon infected that is noted for being the only infected that doesn't attack the player character, but rather flees when the player is near it. I spent time at the bottom of the cliff face and now realize that all the hives are high up, this using up valuable time.Įvolved volatiles will see through camo, but normal volatiles won't be able to. I read that one has only eight minutes to destroy all the hives before morning. Thanks for the help offer, but I should have been able to complete this quest on my own, others do. I quickly learnt to throw flares ahead of me as I ran. I even died when I left the tower near the cave at 9pm. I died once when I fell off a ledge, once when a toad quickly depleted my health and I could not even see where it was, I died twice when grabbed by a volatile and tapping the escape key frantically did not save me. I destroyed two of the four hives but when night was suddenly over there were just too many of them to survive. I thought that camo does not work on these volatiles. I spent an hour at a near by hunting tower waiting for 9pm so getting there was not a problem. Once you start being able to craft weapons of 3000+ damage you can finally get some revenge on the Volatiles and sneak up on them in camoflauge, striking them down with a long button hold strong melee swing and at worst a couple quick follow up strikes as you circle around them before they can hit back. Get in really close as it nears 20:30 or so and you should be clear of the sudden appearance of Volatiles all over the landscape and can slip in without any seeing you. If getting to the Hives at night is your main problem (which is totally understandable, I can get to some of them after dozens of hours of experimenting and leveling up like 30+ Legendary points into melee and asrchery) but many are so out of the way and far from safe zones it's ridiculous to even try imho) You can simply head very near to a Hive during the day and putter around killing random stuff for a while as you wait for nightfall. DO NOT let that blood wear off of you or you will be swarmed and there's no where to run in most Hives. Just be sure to overdo the camoflauge application. The Virals become a lot easier to take out with liberal use of the camoflauge / neck break combo.
